Over the past 30 years as a trial advocate I have specialised almost exclusively in criminal defence and prosecution and family law. I practised from Chambers, 23 Essex Street, in the Middle Temple in London, undertaking over 800 jury trials as a criminal trial advocate in the Crown Courts. I also had a smaller civil practice concentrating mainly on family law in the County Court. I was Called to the Bar in Hong Kong in 2000 and practiced for a few years before going back to London in 2003. I returned to Hong Kong to practise full-time in 2006, since when my work has focused almost exclusively criminal trial advocacy in all the criminal courts in Hong Kong and all aspects of family law and matrimonial finance in the Family Court. I was junior counsel in Court of Final Appeal in LKW v. DD FACV 16/2008; (2010) 13 HKCFAR 537. This landmark CFA judgment is now the leading authority on the division of matrimonial assets in ancillary relief cases in Hong Kong. I am also very honoured to hold the post of Principal Lecturer in the Faculty of Law at the University of Hong Kong, where I teach criminal procedure and professional practice and, since 2008, have been responsible for Matrimonial Practice & Procedure Elective on the PCLL. My post at HKU has also given me the time and opportunity to publish widely in matrimonial and criminal law. I am married to a commercial law solicitor who has brought me two lovely young step-children, both at local Chinese schools. I also have two teenage children, currently at university in England.
